WebHost24 vs DigitalOcean DOKS: which Kubernetes cluster for Indian teams?
Side-by-side comparison of WebHost24 Apps (managed container plans) and DigitalOcean DOKS for teams deploying workloads in and for India. Latency, invoicing, support, and data residency on one table.
DigitalOcean DOKS (DigitalOcean Kubernetes) and WebHost24 Apps are both ways to run containerised workloads on Indian-facing infrastructure. The comparison is not straightforward because the products solve for different scopes. This post puts them on the same table so engineering teams can make a grounded decision.
What each product is
DigitalOcean DOKS is a managed Kubernetes service. DigitalOcean handles the control plane (API server, etcd, scheduler). You bring your own worker nodes as DigitalOcean Droplets and manage the node operating system yourself. DOKS is Kubernetes by default; you can run anything that runs on K8s.
WebHost24 Apps is a managed application runtime. You deploy a container image and WebHost24 handles the cluster, the node operating system, scaling, and the underlying compute. Apps is not Kubernetes by default; it presents a simpler operational surface (one container image, auto-scaling on CPU and memory, built-in HTTPS, Git-triggered deploys).
The operational depth is different. DOKS gives you the full Kubernetes API. Apps gives you a simpler, opinionated interface on top of container scheduling. If your team needs Kubernetes APIs (Custom Resource Definitions, cluster-wide RBAC, advanced scheduling), DOKS is the lower-friction starting point. If your team wants to ship a container without owning the cluster, Apps is the faster path.
Where they differ
Latency to Indian users
DigitalOcean’s closest region to most Indian cities is Bangalore (BLR). WebHost24 runs in Palitana, Gujarat.

Data residency and DPDPA 2023
Both providers can host workloads in India. The difference is legal clarity versus legal optionality.
DigitalOcean BLR is in India. Your workload data is in India. However, DigitalOcean is a US-headquartered company with Irish operating entities. If your customer data falls under DPDPA 2023, your DPA (Data Processing Agreement) is with an entity that may have different enforcement exposure than a India-domiciled host.
WebHost24 is an Indian company. Its DPA is with an Indian entity under Indian law. For startups and SMBs that need to answer a DPDPA audit with a clear in-India data trail, the provider being Indian-domiciled removes one question from the checklist.
Invoicing and FX
DigitalOcean invoices in USD via credit card or PayPal. Indian businesses paying in INR absorb a 1-3% FX fee depending on their card issuer and the daily rate. For a team running $200/month in DOKS costs, that is Rs 17,000-18,000 per month depending on rate movement.
WebHost24 invoices in INR via UPI, net banking, or card. No FX layer. For businesses that need a clean INR line item in their accounting software, the difference is operational, not just financial.
Support model
DigitalOcean support is a ticketing system with community forums and docs. Response times depend on tier (shared, standard, priority).
WebHost24 support is WhatsApp-first in IST business hours. The same people who help you size a plan are the ones you message when something breaks. For a startup that does not have a 24/7 ops team, the WhatsApp path is meaningfully faster for urgent questions.
Scalability
DOKS scales at the node level. You add or remove Droplets as worker nodes. Autoscaling requires either the DigitalOcean Cloud Controller or setting up a separate autoscaler. Kubernetes-native scaling (Horizontal Pod Autoscaler, Vertical Pod Autoscaler) works but requires cluster configuration.
WebHost24 Apps scales at the container level. You set min/max instance count and the platform scales based on CPU and memory thresholds. No node management. For teams that want to add capacity without thinking about cluster nodes, this is simpler.
Honest trade-offs
Choose DigitalOcean DOKS when:
- You need the full Kubernetes API (CRDs, cluster-wide RBAC, advanced schedling).
- Your team already runs Kubernetes and wants to replicate a pattern in India.
- You need multi-region deployment (DigitalOcean has more regions than WebHost24; if you need redundancy across Bangalore and Singapore, DOKS can do that; WebHost24 cannot today).
- You need a specific node size (GPU Droplets, memory-optimised, etc.) that WebHost24 does not offer.
Choose WebHost24 Apps when:
- You want to deploy a container without owning the cluster.
- You need a clean INR invoice and prefer WhatsApp support.
- Your primary customers are in India and you want an Indian-domiciled DPA for DPDPA compliance.
- You are a startup or SMB and the simpler operational surface lets your team ship faster.
Summary table

Neither product is strictly better. The right choice depends on how much Kubernetes complexity your team needs versus how much operational simplicity you want to trade for it.
