Deploy BookStack wiki in five minutes
A practical walkthrough of the BookStack one-click install: pick a plan, name your wiki, and have a team knowledge base live in under five minutes.
BookStack is the open-source wiki platform built for teams that want to organise knowledge without the overhead of a full CMS. It uses books, chapters, and pages — a structure that mirrors how most teams actually think about documentation. Here is how to go from “we need a wiki” to a live BookStack instance on Indian infrastructure in under five minutes.
Before you start
You need:
- A custom domain (or use the temporary
*.webhost24.inURL we assign automatically) - A container plan that supports apps. The smallest entry
Apps plan is enough to run BookStack for a small team;
live pricing is on
/pricing. - Free SSL is issued automatically after provisioning.
Step 1 - Open the apps catalog
From our home page, click Apps, then pick the BookStack card. The install screen opens.
Step 2 - Name your wiki
Pick a slug. That becomes part of your default URL:
your-slug.webhost24.in. If you want to use your own domain,
type it into the Custom domain field and we will show you the
DNS records to add at the end of the install.
Step 3 - Pick a plan
The default selection is your current hosting plan. If you have not picked one yet, the install will pause and ask you to choose. The smallest Apps plan is sized for a small team with under 500 pages.
Step 4 - Wait for the deploy
We provision a container with BookStack, a managed MySQL database, and a file storage backend. Free SSL is issued automatically. This takes three to five minutes for a fresh install. You will see the status live in your dashboard.
Step 5 - Log in to BookStack
Once the status flips to Live, open the BookStack URL. The first visitor is prompted to create the admin account. We send the admin credentials on WhatsApp. Log in, change the password, and start creating your first book.
What you get out of the box
- Free Let’s Encrypt SSL with auto-renewal
- Daily MySQL + storage snapshots, retained for 7 days
- Full-text search across all books and pages
- Role-based permissions: Reader, Editor, Admin
- Image and file uploads with the built-in manager
- INR pricing, billed monthly
What to do next
- Create your first book — give it a name and a description
- Add chapters inside the book, then pages inside chapters
- Set up roles: create an Editor role for your team and a Reader role for external collaborators
- Upload any existing documents or SOPs using the page WYSIWYG editor
- Configure email settings so BookStack can send password resets and shelf update notifications
When to upgrade
The smallest Apps plan handles a small team comfortably. The next tier doubles storage and RAM, giving you room for more books, larger file uploads, and the managed cache layer with a CDN.
That is the whole flow. Five minutes from signup to a live team wiki, hosted in Gujarat, with free SSL and daily backups. If you get stuck, our WhatsApp is open.
